ABOUT JENNIFER

Hello.
I'm Jennifer Walker, LMFT #88540
Psychotherapist

She/Her
Specialties: adults, young adults/millennials, depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, relationships, exploration of sex, sexuality, gender, sexual orientation, and spirituality
I enjoy working with young adults and adults who have trauma, typically emotional abuse and neglect. I also enjoy working with marginalized populations, LGBTQIA+, and anything on the gender and sexuality spectrum. I also enjoy working with clients who struggle with sexual issues and concerns as I have a sex-positive and open approach. I love these clients because I feel like they’ve been judged a lot by peers, family, and society for various reasons and I enjoy being able to help clients find self love and self acceptance. With the client’s who come in for sex issues, I feel that our culture doesn’t provide enough education and knowledge about sex and I enjoy being able to normalize things and provide support for clients who never were able to learn about sex in a healthy way.
I believe that the client and therapist relationship is the foundation for creating positive growth and healing. That is why my focus is to ensure my clients have a space that is free of judgment, and this means that I welcome clients of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and relationship styles.
I utilize a sex-positive, body-positive, trauma-informed, and identity affirmative perspective in supporting the client’s self-discovery.
My formal training includes an M.A. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. I am also trained in EMDR and often utilize a modality called Internal Family Systems (IFS), which recognizes that all of us have various parts within us that can often be conflicting or at odds with each other. IFS helps recognize and understand these parts as well as be able to access the Self (your own innate wisdom) for healing and growth. I am currently working on my certification with the Sexual Health Alliance (SHA) to become a SHA-certified Sex Therapist.
When I'm not being a therapist, I am a self-proclaimed cat lady (my cat often makes appearances on my telehealth sessions), but overall a huge animal lover. I have strong interests in astrology, tarot, and generally things that are esoteric or mystical. I love tattoos and the amount of thought, symbolism, and artistic expression that people put into them. I started learning to roller skate during quarantine and one day, when the world can be back in person, I would love to join a roller derby team.
“There is a difference between ‘living’ and ‘being alive.’ We are meant to feel aliveness, to be alive, to restore life on this earth, and to breathe life into others.”- Esther Perel
