I'm Jamie Weir, LMFT #116755
Specialties: young adults, couples, EMDR, complex trauma
I really love working with young adults on issues of identity formation, failure to launch, family acculturation dynamics, and relationship issues. I also really enjoy helping couples grow more attune to their emotional needs and repair unhealthy communication and traumas. I am an ally to the LGBTQIA community and am committed to be affirming in the care I offer to the community.
Many of my clients first come into therapy describing that on the outside, they are successful or that they had a good childhood, yet don’t understand why they feel empty or how they feel so angry or hurt at times. Sometimes it is not always what happened TO people, but what did not happen FOR people. This deeper core of emotional needs is key to attuning to self and others in relationships.
I knew at a young age that I was very interested in learning about human emotions, mental health, and grief because I did not understand them for myself and that was not talked about in my family. My curiosity led me to taking an AP Psychology class in high school. From that point forward, I fell in love with all things psychology, neuroscience, and became more inspired to not only learn how individuals and families work, but also how to help others be more aware how their selves and families function, too.
The relationship between a therapist and a client is the most sacred and important part of therapy. I appraise therapy to see my clients for who they truly are and to hold a safe and comfortable space for them to open up to themselves and face their deeper psyche in order to accept themselves.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from California State University, Fullerton and have been providing psychotherapy services since 2013.
When I’m not wearing my therapist hat, I enjoy exploring nature and trying new food, walking my fluffy, little dog, going to the beach and Disneyland, binging a new series on Netflix, and time with loved ones.
